Government revenue
includes money received from different sources such as taxes,
government bonds, and bank loans. Large governments usually have
an
agency or
department that collects government revenues from
individuals and companies.
Government revenue services are
largely used to collect taxes at the local, state as well as
national levels. Different names are used in different countries
for the revenue services. For example,
Internal Revenue Service (I.R.S.)
is the agency that collects tax revenue for the United States
Federal Government.
Government revenue, at the federal level, may also include a
Federal Reserve Bank currency which is printed. Although generic
business based accounting standards can be used for federal
reserve banks, there is a question if these give a fair and
accurate picture of government accounts. The focus of this
discussion is on tax revenues.
